It turns out that the problem I was experiencing with inoperative links in my eBook Table of Contents occurred simply because I'm using Microsoft Word on a Mac. Not through choice, I hasten to add. Personally I love Pages, the Mac word processing software. I find it intuitive, user-friendly, accessible - all those wonderful, useful things that so many other word processing apps aren't. I quite like formatting. I know many authors don't, but I guess it appeals to a particular facet of my personality. ('Anal', I hear a close friend of mine suggest.) I'm going to go with 'analytical'. Either way, I've always been prepared to put in the hours to achieve the end result. And it has to be a good one. I don't stop until it is. I wouldn't call the process creative, but it brings its own reward.

As I've already explained elsewhere, I am one of the 'unworthy' ones: one of - possibly a dying breed - of writers who dares to dream of the (nearly) unattainable.
